Walnut Pies

At its simplest, it’s just a pecan pie for which you swap out the pecans for walnuts. But walnuts can be a little more bitter than pecans, so for this particular version, I’ve decided to use a dark maple syrup instead of the more commonly used corn syrup.

Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs

  • ¾ cup white sugar

  • ¾ cup light corn syrup

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled

  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

  • 1 (9 inch) deep-dish pie crust

How To Proceed

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C).
  2. Whisk eggs in a large bowl. Mix in sugar, corn syrup, vanilla, and salt. Whisk in melted butter, then stir in walnuts. Pour filling into pie crust.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Reduce the heat to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) and continue baking until set in the center, 35 to 45 minutes.
  4. Cool: Remove from the oven and let cool completely before serving.
