At its simplest, it’s just a pecan pie for which you swap out the pecans for walnuts. But walnuts can be a little more bitter than pecans, so for this particular version, I’ve decided to use a dark maple syrup instead of the more commonly used corn syrup.
Ingredients
3 large eggs
¾ cup white sugar
¾ cup light corn syrup
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 (9 inch) deep-dish pie crust
How To Proceed
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C).
- Whisk eggs in a large bowl. Mix in sugar, corn syrup, vanilla, and salt. Whisk in melted butter, then stir in walnuts. Pour filling into pie crust.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Reduce the heat to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) and continue baking until set in the center, 35 to 45 minutes.
- Cool: Remove from the oven and let cool completely before serving.
